Actress, Margaret
Blye, was discovered by Hal Wallis while in a play at UCLA.
He subsequently cast her as Dusty in the film version of Tennessee William’s
Summer and Smoke. Eager to return to the stage, Ms. Blye then played the
lead role of Jo in James Baldwin’s Los Angeles’ production of
Blues for Mister Charlie. As a result of this performance, Martin Ritt cast
her to co-star opposite Paul Newman in the ingénue role of Doris
in Hombre. Fox quickly signed her to a seven-year contract followed by
a four-picture
contract at Paramount. Ms. Blye next starred with James Coburn in Waterhole
#3 before leaving for London to star with Marcello Mastroianni in Diamonds
for Breakfast. While in Italy, Margaret starred with Michael Caine and
Sir Noel Coward in The Italian Job, before director Larry Peerce cast her
to
play the daughter of Elizabeth Taylor and Henry Fonda in Ash Wednesday.
